The xPL Forums
We have recently launched a set of Web Forums (http://www.xpl-home.org/forums) for the Project, and would encourage anyone looking for assistance with xPL software to register (http://www.xpl-home.org/forums/profile.php?mode=register) - the forums will be replacing the Yahoo group some time in January 2006.
Email Integration
We use a cool new system called Mail2Forum (http://www.mail2forum.com/wiki/Main_Page) to integrate mailing lists into the Forum. this solves the age old problem of mailing lists and web forums - some people like forums, some people like mailing lists, some like both.
The xPL Forums (http://www.xpl-home.org/forums) each have a mailing list attached - any forum posts are forwarded on to the email users as if they came from a fellow mailing list person - any replies are fed back into the forum as if they were posted via the web. For folks using a threaded email program like Thunderbird, the threads are maintained.
See you there!
How to Use the Forum as a Mailing List
If you simply wish to use the web forums, all you have to do is register - the web forums will be updated with all posts coming from the mailing lists, so you won't miss out on anything!
If, on the other hand, you wish to use the web forum as a mailing list, and have it behave more like the old Yahoo Groups list, you first need to register with the forum - when you sign up, use the same email address that you would like to use for the mailing list.
There is a seperate mailing list for each of the forums, so you can sign up for just the Developers list, or the User's list (or both!). Log into the forum, and look at the top of the screen - click on the "Forum to Email subscriptions" link.
This will display all of the lists available for subscription. To sign up for a mailing list, simply choose the appropriate list and click "subscribe" - they will appear below (and show you the email address you have chosen to use.
If you wish to change this email address, you can do so in the "Profile" section of the forums.
